Las Vegas, NV — With the opening of the beautiful new minor league baseball stadium set next week for Las Vegas suburb Summerlin many local baseball fans were concerned that the future of pro baseball in the City of Las Vegas would be coming to a screeching halt. In an effort to give local sports fans what they want — and to continue its core mission of being “for Las Vegas, by Las Vegas, of Las Vegas” — the Las Vegas Lights F.C. announced today the acquisition of a new Mexican Baseball League team to launch at Cashman Field in Summer 2019.
Below is the new layout for the grass soccer/baseball configuration at Cashman Field which reflects professional soccer as the primary tenant (and professional baseball as the secondary tenant).
“We can’t wait to share detailed plans directly with our fans for this exciting new initiative at our next soccer home match when we for the first time configure Cashman Field for the two sports, but this time with soccer being the primary tenant,” said Lights FC owner & C.E.O Brett Lashbrook. “By ‘flipping’ the baseball configuration so the baseball infield is now in the ‘old outfield’ it fits perfectly with our ideal soccer configuration and permits the two sports to share the grass nearest the seating bowl,” said Lashbrook. “Plus, by doing so, Cashman Field immediately becomes the most unique stadium in the world for baseball — everyone has a chance to catch a home run ball!”
In conjunction with today’s announcement, Lights FC shared its intention to allow fans to vote on the new professional baseball team name from the following three finalists: 51s, Stars & Las Vegas Lights Baseball Club.
The acquisition of the expansion baseball franchise is subject to approval from both the International Baseball Federation and the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).
Lights FC will have no further public comment until its formal unveiling event for media & fans at its next soccer home match against Tacoma Defiance on Saturday, April 13th at 7:30pm when Cashman Field will be set-up in its new joint-soccer/baseball configuration.
