Lights FC Head Coach Dennis Sanchez
On his overall impressions on the match…
I told the guys that it feels like a loss, more because of the belief that I have in them and knowing what we’re capable of doing. Credit to Detroit, we knew that they were going to come in and be a difficult team to play against. Nothing comes easy in this league. While we’re disappointed not to get the three points, I love that this group continues to be resilient and find ways to come back in games. We’ll walk away with a point knowing we could have gotten more, but at the same time find positives in it.
On improvements ahead of next week’s match at Hartford Athletic…
The last two times that we’ve had a little bit of a break in rhythm of games, we haven’t come out as sharp as we want. Right away, having a bit more rhythm playing Saturday-to-Saturday will benefit us…Trying to create more goalscoring opportunities and being more goal-dangerous in the final third would be something that we’re going to focus on this week.
On what he changed at halftime by bringing on Adams and Bennett, and how it paid off with Bennett’s goal…
We felt like as the game went on that we were going to have more of the ball. We wanted to push our fullbacks higher and have more numbers higher up the field. Khori brings more of an out-and-out striker mind to the picture…Fortunately, the sub paid off, and Khori continues to make a difference for us.
On tying the USL Championship’s longest unbeaten streak of the year at 11 matches…
We just have to keep going. We’re going to take it one game at a time. We know that there are no easy points and that every time we step on the field, we have to prove ourselves. It’s a great accomplishment, but even over the course of those 11 games, there are games that we can win. We’re going to keep striving for three points every time we step on the field.
