WHERE TO WATCH: The match is available to watch SSSEN and streamed nationally on CBS Sports Golazo Network.
2024 RECORDS AND STANDINGS: Las Vegas: 3-6-0 (9 points, 9th West), San Antonio: 3-2-4 (13 points, 5th West)
FORM GUIDE (all competitions, most recent first): Las Vegas: LLLLW, San Antonio: LDLWD
PREVIOUS MEETING: Las Vegas defeated San Antonio 1-0 at Cashman Field on April 6. Shawn Smart scored the lone goal in the win, Vegas’s third consecutive at that time.
OPEN CUP DEFEATS: Both Las Vegas (3-1 vs. LAFC) and San Antonio (2-0 at Indy Eleven) fell in the Round of 32 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday.
RIGHTING THE SHIP: Las Vegas has been as streaky a team as any in the USL Championship this season. The Lights lost their first two matches of the campaign, won three straight and have currently dropped four in a row in league play. They’ll look to get back on track against a team they just beat a little more than a month ago.
PLAYING SMART: Fullback Shawn Smart is off to a flying start in his rookie campaign. The Clemson product will be looking to find the back of the net against San Antonio again and for the second straight match after getting on the scoresheet midweek against LAFC.
LEADS SLIPPING: San Antonio FC has had difficulty closing out opponents at home so far this season. The club has already dropped points from winning positions at Toyota Stadium to two different teams beneath the playoff line.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
Las Vegas Lights Head Coach Dennis Sanchez
On how his team battled against LAFC on Wednesday…
I said to the guys after the match to hold their heads high and that we have to build on this. I know they were motivated for this match, but we have to be equally, if not more, motivated for the match on Saturday against San Antonio and the match after that. We know it’s there, and it’s about how we can create that energy and that desire more consistently.
On turning the page quickly to San Antonio this weekend…
First off, rest and recover, which starts immediately. We’ve played them, so we know some of their tendencies. It’s not going to be an easy game by any means, but we’re hopeful that we can get in there and take three points.
SAN ANTONIO PLAYER TO WATCH: Jorge Hernández, M
Hernández is proving yet again why he’s the best playmaker in the USL Championship. He leads the league in assists (five), chances created (30) and crosses (96).
