Lights FC Head Coach Dennis Sanchez
On his overall assessment of the afternoon…
“It’s a humbling experience. I think that we always knew coming into the new project with a brand new team that there were going to be up’s and down’s and I think we have to continue to have the right perspective. But the reality is, for myself as a coach in terms of the goals that we’re giving up, it’s not good enough. We’ll get back to the field and work in these areas and continue to improve.”
On any positive takeaways from the performance…
“With the ball, there was some decent actions in the first half in terms of playing through their press, arriving into our final third… I think we need to have more desire and a better mentality when we arrive to attack the ball with more numbers. But the reality is, again, we can’t be naïve to the other parts of the game and when you give up early goals against the run of play it makes it really difficult for us to come back.”
On seeing any of the right kinds of sequences from his side…
“If we only have the ball 100% of the time then I would feel way more positive about where things are but the reality is that some of the goals we’re giving up, we’re making it very easy for the opposition to score against us right now. Again, as much as there were some positives with the ball, the reality is we didn’t score any goals and we gave up six.”
On stopping the three-game slide against New Mexico on Saturday…
“We’ll see what our group is made of. I’m looking for a response that, again, shows the effort, desire, and mentality that we’ve had and have shown in different ways throughout the season. We need more consistency, we need more leadership, we need to improve in every facet, and that starts with again looking at myself as the leader of the group, and our staff and our players. We’re going to quickly find out what this group is made of.”
