Wednesday morning will mark the first physical step towards making Cashman Field the home of Las Vegas Lights FC.
At 8 a.m., an event will be held to celebrate the beginning of the first conversion of Cashman Field to a soccer venue, led by Lights FC Owner & CEO Brett Lashbrook. Crews this week will begin to lay the first pieces of turf to convert the stadium into a traditional soccer pitch for the first of 20 home matches Lights FC will host this season. Lights FC play at Cashman begins Feb. 10, when Major League Soccer (MLS) club Montreal Impact comes to Downtown Las Vegas for the first game in club history.
Wednesday’s event is open to both the media and the general public, and those in attendance will be able to take home a commemorative piece of the first patch of turf laid for Lights FC play in the club’s new home.
Throughout the season, at the club’s expense, Lights FC will cover Cashman Field’s infield dirt and remove the pitching mound for home matches while sharing the venue with the Las Vegas 51s baseball team. Each time the process is completed, it will create an intimate, authentic soccer experience for everyone who attends a Lights FC match, with game play coming right up to the start of the seats along the sideline and endline.
Lights FC’s full, 20-game home slate was announced on Friday, and includes seven weekend home dates between Saturday, Feb. 10 and Friday, April 27.
