Hey Mr. Pitbull, the real dogs are here.
The Lights have landed in Miami, ready to face Eastern Conference rivals Miami FC for Week 24 of the USL Championship regular season.
Vegas is currently undefeated in their last five matches across all competitions, accumulating three wins and two draws. Their last match against Oakland Roots at Cashman Field concluded in a goalless stalemate.
Miami have won twice, lost twice, and drawn once in their last five games. Their last match was an intense 2-2 draw at Pitbull Stadium against Detroit City FC. Miami was close to clinching three points at home, but an 89th minute goal by Tommy Silva earned the visiting side a valuable point on the road.
After an underwhelming 2025 season, things are looking up for both the Lights and Miami.
This Saturday’s match promises to be electric.
A very forgettable set of matches…
September 13, 2025 marks the last time both teams faced each other. The match, played at Cashman Field in Las Vegas, ended in an uneventful 0-0 draw that kept both teams at the bottom of their respective Conference standings.
The last time they faced each other at Pitbull Stadium, things didn’t go that well for the Lights. On April 23, 2023, Miami won 4-1 in a dominant performance, with Christian Sorto, Paco Craig, Claudio Repetto, and Joaquin Rivas scoring for the home team. Lucas Stauffer scored the Lights’ only goal.
Keys to the Match
Here are the keys to earning a big win in the 305.
Eloy’s in the Room
Eloy Room and Curacao were two of the World Cup’s biggest surprises.
The goalkeeper of the smallest nation to ever qualify for a World Cup, Eloy Room showed out throughout his national team’s group stage matches and kept Curacao competitive after a rocky start against Germany. His record 15 saves against Ecuador were not only a record high for the competition; they also earned Curacao their first-ever point in their first-ever World Cup appearance.
Room has also been a pillar throughout Miami FC’s impressive 2026 season, keeping five clean sheets and making 41 saves in 14 appearances to help his team stay in playoff contention. He was also important in helping his team secure a berth in the Prinx Tires USL Cup quarterfinals, keeping one clean sheet and tallying seven saves during the competition’s group stage.
If the Lights want to win on Saturday night, they must get past record-breaking goalkeeper Eloy Room.
Jurgen Locadia: Miami’s Goalscorer
Another member of the Curacao national team that exceeded expectations at this year’s World Cup, Jurgen Locadia represents Miami FC’s biggest threat in attack.
After a slow start to the season, Locadia has levelled up following his return from the World Cup, scoring four goals in his last five matches.
An experienced forward with a strong physical presence, Locadia has scored nine goals in 18 appearances across all competitions for Miami, becoming the team’s most important player up front.
The Lights’ defense must be on guard, as players of Locadia’s caliber will not be merciful when given some space.
Miami Heat
In his hit 2011 song International Love, Pitbull sang the following: “Been all around the world, but I ain’t gon’ lie… there’s nothin’ like Miami’s heat, dale.” And it is true.
Las Vegas is a very hot city, but it’s nowhere near as humid as Miami.
While tomorrow’s match is expected to be played in 87-degree weather, the humidity will approximate 73%. Playing under such conditions can be suffocating, especially for players who come from much drier conditions and who are about to play their third match in seven days.
If the Lights are to win in Miami this Saturday, they must overcome adverse weather conditions with intelligence.
