The Lights travel to the Indomitable City to face the always challenging Sacramento Republic FC.
We’re officially entering the final stretch of the USL Championship regular season, and the stakes couldn’t be any higher.
There are five matches remaining. Five finals. Five opportunities for the Lights to get closer to the ultimate goal: clinching a playoff berth.
And it all starts in Sacramento.
The Lights’ last match took place on October 19, when they drew 1-1 against an unbeaten Hartford Athletic at Cashman Field. Michee Ngalina scored from the penalty spot to give the visitors the lead, which they sustained until the 70th minute. That’s when Manuel Arteaga took advantage of a rebound to score his second goal of the season and earn Vegas a point against a solid opponent.
Meanwhile, Sacramento Republic earned three massive points on the road at New Mexico United, winning 3-2 over one of the Western Conference’s best teams.
This Wednesday’s match is going to be huge.
A very balanced previous encounter
The Lights and Sacramento last played each other at the beginning of the 2026 season.
On April 11, Vegas and the Republic drew 1-1 in a neck-and-neck matchup at Cashman Field where both teams shared possession and took the same number of shots.
Aaron Guillen gave the Lights the advantage with a powerful shot from outside the box, but MLS veteran Mark-Anthony Kaye tied things up ten minutes later to end things in a stalemate.
Both sides now meet again, this time at Heart Health Stadium, as they fight for three crucial points in the race for playoffs.

Heart Health Park has been a true fortress for Sacramento this season.
The Republic is the second-best home team in the Western Conference, earning 67% of all possible points at home. They also possess the second-best home goal differential (+11), scoring 20 goals and allowing only nine in 12 matches.
And much of the credit for their excellent performance as a home team has to go to their fanbase. Sacramento has the highest average attendance (10,037) in the entire league. And their fans are not quiet: they chant, cheer, and scream throughout the full 90, pushing their team forward when the going gets tough.
The Lights have traveled to hostile environments and made it out alive. Sometimes, they’ve even brought three points back home. To win in Sacramento, Vegas must stay focused on what happens within the lines and ignore the stands.

Memo Rodriguez has been one of the best players of the 2026 USL Championship regular season so far.
The former Houston Dynamo, LA Galaxy, and Sporting Kansas City attacking midfielder has had a massive impact at Sacramento, scoring four goals and tallying six assists in 18 matches. Eight of those ten goal contributions have taken place in the last ten matches, right when Sac needed him the most.
The versatile, experienced midfielder drives most of the Republic’s attack forward, using his clever passing and masterful distribution to leave the team’s offensive front in advantageous scenarios.
If the Lights want to snatch three points from Sacramento, they must contain Memo and his creative capabilities.
Precaution on set pieces
No team in the USL Championship does set pieces better than Sacramento Republic FC.
The Republic has scored 13 goals from set pieces so far, netting 0.52 set piece goals per match. An incredible 39% of the team’s goals come from stationary play.
