27-year-old center back will join the Puerto Rico national team as they set their sights on a historic Concacaf Gold Cup qualification
Las Vegas Lights FC today announced that defender Callum Stretch has received a call-up to the Puerto Rico national team.
Puerto Rico will face Guyana on September 24, Dominica on September 27, Cayman Islands on October 1, and once again Cayman Islands on October 4 for the 2006-27 Concacaf Nations League B group stage.
The 2026–27 Concacaf Nations League will serve as a qualifier for the 2027 edition of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, the confederation’s premier national team competition.
Puerto Rico was slotted in Group A with Guyana, Dominica, and the Cayman Islands. The group leader will qualify for the Gold Cup, get promoted to Nations League A, and advance to the semifinals of League B. The second-placed team can potentially qualify for the Gold Cup preliminary tournament via FIFA ranking. The last-placed team will get relegated to League C.
Los Boricuas aspire to qualify for their first Gold Cup ever. In 2023, they were only one match away from doing so, losing 2-0 against Martinique in the second round of the prelims.
By qualifying for the Gold Cup, they would emulate the women’s national team’s success in 2024, when they qualified for the first edition of the Concacaf W Gold Cup after a massive upset over Caribbean giants Haiti.
A former USYNT international, Stretch has made four appearances for El Huracán Azul, making his debut on January 19, 2021 in a 1-0 victory over Caribbean rivals Dominican Republic in Santo Domingo. Earlier this year, he was called up for Puerto Rico’s FIFA Series appearance, helping the national team win the first tournament in Puerto Rican history.
Stretch officially joined the Lights from Sarasota Paradise on September 8. He made 13 appearances for the Floridian side this season.
