The Lights host the Western Conference’s second-placed team, New Mexico United, in another episode of one of the USL Championship’s most intense rivalries.
The Lights just lost their second match in a row: a 2-0 defeat at Cashman Field against the powerful Charleston Battery. Jamaican forward Maalique Foster scored a brace to settle things in favor of the South Carolinian side.
As for New Mexico, they just cut a 13-match unbeaten streak short following a 2-1 loss at the hands of San Antonio FC. A Kipp Keller own goal and a Nicky Hernandez shot from inside the box earned San Antonio three valuable points in enemy territory.
Vegas and New Mexico arrive at Cashman Field with the goal of rebuilding some of the positive momentum lost in order to end the season on a high.

About four months ago, the Lights and New Mexico faced each other for the last time.
On May 9, the Black and Yellow defeated Vegas 3-1, with Niall Reid-Stephen, Ousman Jabang, and Zico Bailey scoring for the home team. Oalex Anderson scored the Lights’ only goal.
It’s been seven years since the Lights last overpowered the Albuquerque side at Cashman. On June 15, 2019, Vegas cruised past New Mexico in a 5-1 routing. But after that game, New Mexico has managed to escape Cashman with two victories and two draws, establishing a positive record in Sin City.
A win over New Mexico is long overdue for the Lights. Saturday’s match offers a perfect opportunity; it’s an inflection point.

And when games get tight and the opposition doesn’t budge, there’s nothing better than a long pass to break the adversary’s lines and find attacking players in optimal positions.
Giorgio Probo will be key on Saturday night, as he’s been throughout the season so far. Give the ball to him, and he’ll deliver.
Dayonn Harris: New Mexico’s dagger on the wings
Dayonn Harris has been impressive for New Mexico United this season.
The Antiguan winger has scored six goals and contributed with six assists in 22 matches across all competitions this year, leading the G+A metrics for the Albuquerque side.
The 2025 USL Championship Comeback Player of the Year is a force on the wing: a player who can generate chances for his teammates, but can also slot them in.
The Lights’ defense must keep an eye out for Dayonn Harris if they want to earn three big points at Cashman.
Kris Shakes: A well-known wall
Kris Shakes is one of the main reasons why New Mexico stands second in the Western Conference standings.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper has kept seven clean sheets in 18 USL Championship matches this season, making 3.8 saves per match (third highest in the league) and holding the second highest save percentage in the league (79.3%).
A guardian with impressive reflexes, Shakes is one hard obstacle to beat. He’s the main barrier separating the Lights from a key victory in the pursuit of a playoff berth.
