Las Vegas Lights FC Head Coach Dennis Sanchez
Thoughts on the match…
We knew it was going to be a tough game. We knew that Oakland was going to be out to get us with their backs against the wall.
I’m looking at it as a humbling experience for our guys. I think that it’s a reminder that at this point in the season that it’s going to be marginal gains.
To give up a goal in the first three minutes, yes we can come back. But, we put ourselves under it. The reality is when you’re at home, giving up three goals is never going to be the standard we want to create.
We’ll look at it, we’ll improve from it, and respond next week in North Carolina. We still control our own destiny in terms of finishing in second place.
Thoughts on the attacking display…
I just looked and we had 78% possession but not enough shots. I would say, specifically, not enough high quality shots. And, when you talk about possession, you always talk about active defending and being able to defend in transition. That’s where they caught us a few times.
Again, I think we can be better. But, credit to Oakland. They got a lot of players behind the ball, slowed the game down, and disrupted our rhythm.
That’s what the playoffs is going to be. We’ll look at it as a game we can improve on.
Thoughts on the environment at Cashman Field on Fan Appreciation Night…
It was great. We felt their energy. Unfortunately, we couldn’t come away with a win, but we’re looking forward to seeing them [here] in playoffs.
Thoughts on the next match at NCFC…
North Carolina is a good side. We’re going to go out there, just as we always do, with the ambition to win. They’re also fighting for their lives, so every game from here on out is going to feel like the playoffs.
We’ll bounce back. We’ll get some guys back and healthy, and we’ll get after it next weekend.
