Las Vegas Lights FC Head Coach Dennis Sanchez
On his overall impressions on the match…
I’m really happy and proud of the guys. We came out and set the tone in the first half and got a good, timely goal. Credit to Sacramento, they adjusted and added more high pressure throughout the game, which made it difficult for us. For me, this is very much a mentality win and shows what this group is capable of. We dug in in a difficult moment in the second half, we were suffering together, but found a way to win.
On if this was the best result of the year…
They’re all important, but the timing of it in terms of where we are as a group and the evolution of us in our next step in learning how to win these types of games, it was a really good step in the collective, the mentality, everybody stepping up and finding a way.
On Christian Pinzón’s first Lights goal…
I’m happy for him. He’s a guy who has worked extremely hard to come back from his injury. You’ve seen in the last few games that his ability to create in the final third is unique. I knew he was going to score, he was due for it, so proud and happy for him to find his goal.
On getting three points to kick off this four-match road trip…
We’re a group that wants to play the same both home and away. We’ll take it game-by-game. More importantly, where we are in the process, it was a really important step tonight.
On the ability to see the match out…
It’s maturing as a group and understanding that there are always going to be momentum shifts within games. We capitalized when we had them in the first half and found a way to bend but not break in the second half. The guys always work really hard, they retain information well, we’re just going to keep moving forward step-by-step.
