Lights FC Head Coach Dennis Sanchez
On his overall impressions on the match…
It’s a tough one for us. We put ourselves in a pretty difficult spot giving up two goals in the first half, especially the timing of the second goal right before halftime. That’s something that we have to improve upon. I commend the guys for their effort, but my challenge to them is to have the same effort they displayed in the second half throughout 90 minutes.
On the team’s response to open the second half…
It’s something that we need to try and fix and have that same mentality when it’s 0-0 or we’re up 1-0, 2-0. What I love is that the guys do respond, they never give up, but I’m going to continue to challenge them to have that same mentality from the opening whistle.
On how to reset and regroup this week after three games in eight days…
We’ll have a couple days off for the guys to rest, not only their bodies, but mentally as well. The good thing right now is that we have a tough stretch of games coming up starting away at Charleston next weekend, so there’s no time to keep our heads down or sulk. We’re going to have to bounce back quickly and have a good week of training and come out and compete next weekend.
On his early thoughts on next week’s match against unbeaten Charleston…
They’re a good side. They’re very well-coached, very organized. They have some really dangerous attacking players. They’ve built a level of momentum right now. We want to be tested against the best and there’s no better test right now than Charleston.
