With a 2-goal lead, Las Vegas kept the pedal to the metal and in the 84th minute Alex Mendoza served a cross from the right wing that Ochoa timed down to strike with an acrobatic scissor-kick in the penalty area that made the ball go past goalkeeper Zac Lubin and into the back of the net.
“It’s one of the best goals I’ve ever had in my career, so to have it in the fight for USL goal of the year makes it sweeter”, Ochoa said.
Everybody focuses on how the play ended, but Sammy knows that without his teammates it would’ve been impossible to get this score, “It was a perfect play overall, not just the goal. (Daigo) Kobayashi’s long ball that Raul (Mendiola) controlled to then give it to Alex (Mendoza) who got an incredible cross to me. What a better way to finish it than with that goal”.
Ochoa was selected #1 in the Lights F.C. Top 10 goals of the year and won the Fans’ Choice Last-Chance Vote, now it’s up to the fans to keep on supporting the Lights F.C. forward to top another list: Fans’ Choice Goal of the Year.
