Following his second multi-goal effort of the 2018 season as a midseason signee, Lights FC’s Raul Mendiola became the first player on the club to earn multiple USL Team of the Week honors.
On Tuesday, the former LA Galaxy attacker was named to the 33-team league’s 11-man list of honorees.
In a wild 3-3 draw on Saturday night in Reno in the final leg of the inaugural Silver State cup, Mendiola scored a pair of equalizers, as the club eliminated three one-goal deficits on the evening. The second of his two scores came in the form of a 90th minute equalizer, leaving each club with a point from the result.
After joining the club in the summer months, Mendiola leads Lights FC with nine goals in just 18 matches played.
His first Team of the Week honors this season came after he recorded the first Hat Trick in club history in a road contest at OKC Energy FC on July 11.
Oddly enough, Mendiola will have another crack at Energy FC Saturday night, which will cap a 2-match week for the club. Lights FC hosts first place Orange County SC on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Cashman Field, then will welcome Energy FC at 8 p.m. Saturday – An evening featuring the first Bobblehead Night in club history.
The first 5,000 fans in attendance at Cashman Field on Saturday night will receive a bobblehead of Lights FC mascot “Cash the Soccer Rocker.” For more details, and to purchase tickets starting at just $15, visit LightsFC.com/September.
